Inclusivity of 'Dalit' in Subaltern Discourse

 Abstract

The academic discipline of Postcolonial study led the foundation for the studies like Subaltern and Dalit. The Subaltern Theory that came into existence in 1980s is basically associated with  study of 'People with inferior rank'. But, later this term became more broad and besides 'farmers' and 'low rank soldiers' it encompassed  the studies like Feminist, Dalit and Tribe as sub-theories of the same domain. How the theory of Subalternity reached to these offshoots and why Dalit study should be included in Subaltern Study are the questions for exploration. In this paper, I have tried my best to explore and answer these questions by including my investigation related to meaning and concept of Subaltern and Dalit, Development of Subaltern Theory and inclusion of Dalit study in Subalternity.

(Key words: Subaltern, Dalit, Postcolonial, depressed Classes, Untouchability.)
